Dr. Roland Löffler

Roland Löffler has headed the Saxon State Institute of political Education since September 2017. He studied Protestant theology in Tübingen, Berlin, Cambridge and Marburg, where he also researched, taught and earned his doctorate as a research assistant. After a period as a freelance journalist, a vicariate at the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck and a visiting professorship at the University of Montreal, he joined the Herbert Quandt Foundation in 2007. Most recently, he worked as managing director of the Westphalia Initiative Foundation in Münster.

His work and publications over the past 15 years have focused on topics such as integration and intercultural education, the Middle East, challenges facing civil society, the future of rural areas, and political culture in the new German states. In this context, he was active for many years in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, among other places. His honorary activities include serving on the advisory board of the Hessian Institute for Religious Education in Marburg, as a board member of the Jerusalemsverein, and as a trustee of the Dr. Dr. Gerda-von Mach Foundation. Both Berlin-based institutions are active in the field of education and church for Arab Christians. He is also concerned with German-Polish and German-Northern European relations. Roland Löffler is independent, married and has two children. He likes sports, wine, theater, classical music and jazz.
